Home Fengsui and Shio in the Year of the Wood Dragon, Pay Attention to the Three Harmonies and the Six Conflicts
Dr Mauro Rahardjo, Lelyana Rahardjo 10 February 2024

For most people, there is a perception that home fengsui is related to one's shio (horoscope). That opinion is not wrong, but it is also not really true.

By DR MAURO RAHARDJO & LELYANA RAHARDJO, Founder of Feng Shui School Indonesia

IN the science of fengsui, your shio (horoscope) is not automatically related to the fengsui of the house. For example, to determine the good or bad direction for an individual is commonly used in the ba zhai (8 buildings) technique.

The determining factors are the year of birth and whether the person is male or female. A female buffalo shio (1973) and a male buffalo shio of the same birth will not have the same kua. A buffalo woman (1973) has a kua of 6 (chien) belonging to the western kua group, while a buffalo man (1973) has a kua of 9 belonging to the western kua group.

has a kua of 9 belonging to the eastern kua group.

If so, in what ways does home fengsui relate to your shio? There are two fengsui theories concerning this. First, there is the issue of san he (3 harmonies) and liu chong (6 conflicts).

San he is the harmony that exists between the three horoscopes, namely:

(1) Monkey-rat-dragon

(2) Snake-chicken-goat

(3) Tiger-horse-dog

(4) Pig-rabbit-goat

The way to use it is as follows, if you are a monkey, the compass directions of the rat and dragon are harmonious and will bring you good luck. If you are a snake, the compass directions facing the chicken and/or buffalo will be harmonious and bring you good luck. Each of these horoscopes has its own compass direction which has a

have an interval of 15 degrees (see table below).

The harmonious facing direction is good to use for the main entrance of the house, the bedroom and your workplace inside the house. On the other hand, the three mentioned function spaces are less suitable if they are in the position of conflicting horoscope compass directions (liu chong). The six conflicting pairs are as follows:

  • Rat x horse
  • Ox x goat
  • Tiger x monkey
  • Rabbit x chicken
  • Dragon x dog
  • Snake x pig

If you are a rat, it is not suitable for the door of your house to face south where the horse's position is. And so on, you should avoid compass directions and positions that are chong (incompatible) with your horoscope. (*)
