Prambanan Temple itself was built in the 9th century AD. The construction of Prambanan Temple is known as an offering to the three main Hindu gods or Trimurti consisting of Brahma, Wishnu, and Shiva. According to the Siwagrha inscription, Prambanan Temple was built around 850 AD by Rakai Pikatan. The construction of the temple was then developed and expanded by Balitung Maha Sambu during the Medang Mataram kingdom. The initial construction continued to be perfected by subsequent Medang Mataram kings such as kings Daksa and Tulodong. The construction continued to expand until there were hundreds of additional temples around the main temple. During its heyday, Prambanan Temple functioned as a grand temple where various important ceremonies were held. In addition, hundreds of priests and their students gathered at Prambanan Temple in order to study the Vedas and perform rituals.

Borobudur Temple is a Buddhist temple located in the city of Magelang, Central Java province.Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Because of its splendor and majesty, the temple built in the 8th century has been designated by UNESCO as one of the world's cultural heritage. The origin of the name Borobudur is unclear, although the original names of most temples in Indonesia are unknown. The name Borobudur was first written in the book History of Java by Sir Thomas Raffles. The name Bore-Budur, in English grammar to refer to the village closest to the temple, is Bore (Boro) Village. Most temples are often named after the village where they stand. Raffles also suspected that the word Budur might be related to the Javanese term Buda meaning ancient, meaning ancient Boro. However, other archaeologists consider that the name Budur comes from the term bhudhara which means mountain. Borobudur temple is still shrouded in mystery, regarding who the founder of Borobudur temple was and what was the original purpose of building this temple. Many stories and tales of Borobudur temple are circulating which are now known as fairy tales.
